By viewing the retinal vessels, we screen for high blood pressure and ophthalmic manifestations of diabetes. By viewing the retina, we screen for retinal tears and retinal detachments.
Amblyopia (Lazy eye) starts in childhood and is a type of poor vision that usually happens in one eye. Children should be screened for amblyopia between the ages of 3 to 5 years old. With early treatment, long term decrease in vision can often be avoided, giving the child good binocular vision into adulthood.
We screen for cataracts and send your for surgery when they interfere with your activities of daily living. We will educate you on the different types of "implants" used at the time of surgery so you can make the best choice for your lifestyle when you meet the surgeon. We will also be involved in your post operative care to ensure your eye is healing properly.
Diabetic retinopathy can cause sight threatening complications, even if at the time of your exam you have good vision. At the conclusion of your dilated diabetic exam we will send a report to the doctor managing your diabetes. If your diabetic retinopathy is advanced, we will arrange an appointment with a retinal specialist.

Age Related Macular degeneration can occur in individuals 50 years of age or older. In the beginning stages there are often no symptoms and you may still have good vision. In the later stages it can cause blurred vision or no vision in the center of your visual field. Ask us how you can reduce your risk of this disease.
